Jakarta Trip Part 2 - Food

If you're looking for my DeNami Blog Hop post, please scroll down.

This weekend I am finally back on US time. Yesterday, I went to meet my cousins and aunt for dim sum brunch. I noticed that coming back from Indonesia, I didn't have any appetite for a few days. I guess, besides jet lag I was experiencing some minor depression. It always take me a few days sometime a week or two to get over my sadness of being away from my family again after being together. Anyway, having Chinese food is a good way to bring my appetite back.

Then, I decided to go to the movie with my cousin, Julia and we watched "The Tourist". I really enjoyed that moviw. I thought it was fun & entertaining. Afterwards, I spent the rest of the afternoon working on my holidays picture. Really hope I can start working on scrapbooking these pictures ASAP.

Anyway, I do have a card that I made last month, but haven't share it yet. Love this old school phone. This one from October Afternoon collection.

Continuing about my trip. There's more food pictures. LOL, you can't go to Indonesia without talking about food a lot. Especially for those of us who went abroad and only get to eat these kind of food every once in a while.

First pic is of my mom picking some durian for me. Have you heard about this fruit? The outside may look scary, but the inside is pure yummy goodness. One of the best fruit ever. I love eating it fresh just like that, but they put this into everything. From dessert drink, to pancake, cookies, etc.

Second pic, this is what we called  "Salak". Have no idea what they call it in English. You peeled the skin and inside is creamy colored fruit that's crunchy and yummy. That quotes, "Do not judge a book by it's cover" is so true when it comes to fruits. Many amazingly delicious fruits, the outside looks weird or ugly, but that's definitely not a reflection of the inside.

One of the food stand at the fresh market. You just picked what you want to have with your rice. Typical Indonesian food, you have rice as the main dish.

Another rice dish. You have the rice, then you have all the other dishes to go along with it.

It's very common to use banana leaves to prepare or serve your food. I love how they shaped the rice like a cone and there's just something about eating on top of banana leaves. Honestly, if I haven't live outside the country, I wouldn't have learned to appreciate some of these stuff that make Indonesia unique. Now, I paid attention to even the small details and just truly enjoy the beauty and the uniqueness of it all.

Wow, that's one long post, isn't it? I hope you enjoy it. You can also see more pics on my facebook. I'll be back and post more about my trip. And more food... Next time it's dessert. Hope you don't get bored reading them. My blog is not just a place for me to share my creations, but also serves as my travel journal, as my medium of correspondence with the family. Hope you enjoy reading them.  Thank you for coming and I appreciate all your lovely comments.

Pity we could not meet up... I was away to meet my family.
Thanks for sharing those lovely pics. I certainly know what durien is after living for 12 years in the East. And the second fruit is called SNAKE fruit because it's skin resembles snake skin.

I am sad that you were sad to come away - I understand how that feels. By the way, I love dimsums too and could have them for all three meals of the day. And Chinese food is my all time fave. I learned to make Chinese cuisine when I was 11 and frankly that is all I know how to cook. Who has time to cook when there is so much to craft?

Hugs,

M

Umm, you forgot to mention how stinky the durian is! I have yet to get over the pungent odor after all these years of smelling it when my family eats it. All the foods look so yummy! I didn't learn to appreciate Vietnamese food until I moved away from home. Now I try to cook it but it's never as good as mom's. :)

So cool you had a chance to visit your family! I haven't been home in almost 6 years and planning a trip hopefully at the end of the summer. I miss them too and I know it will be hard for me to come back home even though I have my girls and hubby here.

Anyway, thank you so much for joining us at the ODBD Challenge...hugs ~S~
