CARDS THAT CARE

Hi all. If you remember, last year I did a card drive to collect holiday cards for the elderly that lives in nursing homes.Well, I am excited to announce that I am doing it again this year and I am teaming up with the fabulous Jennifer McGuire.

She's been thinking about doing this for awhile and since we have the same goal, I asked her if she'd like to team up and to my delight she said yes. Our card drive is called CARDS THAT CARE. We hope that many of you will join and help us to reach more nursing homes and spread more joy.

The holidays are about family, about kindness, and joy. The holidays are the times when many of the elderly who lives in nursing homes would really feel the loneliness or missing their family. Wouldn't it be awesome if we can bring a smile to their face & brighten their holiday season simply by sharing our love of card making? A simple gesture to let them know that they are not forgotten.

We all love making cards and what’s better than knowing our creations can bring a smile to others? We hope that many of you will help and join us in our effort to spread joy & cheer.

We have some people that already agree to help us deliver the cards to selected nursing homes.

A few important details:

  • This card drive will be going on till November 30, 2011. We will need to receive your cards by November 30, 2011.
  •  Please make the cards for Christmas or Holiday Wishes. Anyone can send a card, your children, church group, scout troops, etc.
  • All cards need to have a message in it.  And please sign your name and where you are from.
  • Please don't seal the envelope.
  • Please stick to just cards (all size welcome)
  • And please don't use any pins (safety reason).
  • You can mail the cards  to either one of us:
                        Jennifer McGuire                              Vera Yates

       P.O. Box 428612
                                P.O Box 17596

Cincinnati, OH 45242                        Sugar Land, TX 77496

  • In each package, PLEASE include a piece of paper with your name, address, email address and how many cards you sent.  This helps us in keeping track for prizes! For each card you send, you will get a chance.  So the more cards you send, the better your chances.
To thank you for your generosity in supporting this drive, we have several PRIZES ready for several winners. There will be many winners and remember… the more cards you send the better your chances. :)

I'll update the prize list as more prizes coming in. And big thank you to all the fabulous companies who support our card drive by donating awesome prizes.

Great Vera, was wondering if you would be doing this again this year, have some of my cards waiting to go out so will be sending you some again this year, as I did last year.

Thanks for doing this, I so miss my grandparents and parents, and I know I would want them to receive cards if it was them in the home all alone.

Great of you and Jennifer to do this.
Hugs
Donna

I am so excited to get the skilled nursing facility and assisted living where I work as marketing director to participate - our residents are so very special and LOVE to get mail! Last night our staff's children trick-or-treated and to watch the intergenerational interactions was simply PRICELESS. I love my job!

I am new to this site so I say "Hello" to everyone.I am working on a few cards as we speak for the great idea of giving cards to those in nursing homes.I can never visit one without leaving in tears. My heart is so sad because I know a lot of those sweet ones get no visitors. But for people like us who do care it is a blessing for them as well for us when we do all we can to bring a smile to their faces.Sincerely,Sandra

Since I am a newbee I will tell you why I do the things I do.Which is making cards for others.Sadly our family lost a dear one.My son David at 26 on Dec.2,2005 lost his battle with cancer.Yes,it's awful and hurts.A few months after his death I decided to look at all the cards our family received.I noticed some were handmade.I realized it took time, love and effort to make those handmade cards.I talked it over with my husband Larry about my trying my hand at making handmade cards, since I already send tons of cards. He thought it would be a good deversion from David being gone.Well,Larry my was right.Since Davids passing I have sent hundreds of cards to many in need of a kind word.I do send many to family and friends but mostly to those I don't even know.Since David died of cancer I have tried to share in various ways in sending cards to children with cancer and their families.I have been a part of CaringBridge which anyone can send cards to children and their families as well you can leave a few words of encouragement on the site.So in Davids honor I work daily on these special cards going to special people.Sincerely,Sandra

My daughter and I enjoy making cards together, and this will be a special time, with the opportunity to bring joy to others. Thanks for letting us know how to help. What an amazing giveaway, thank you for the chance.

Dearest Ling,Thank you for posting my comment about my son David.I always try and let other crafters,as yourself, know that there are many ways to bring a bit of hope to one who is going through a rough time.I see by your blog and the many others that I visited that I am in good company. These are people that truly care about the welfare of others from their heart.May the good Lord bless the work that we all do for the sake of others.Since the economy is so poor...I am too.I am disabled and have a lot of time to put towards making my cards.I just cringe when I know I need to get some adhesives or other things to make my cards of hope. But through blessings I always manage to get the craft items I need.As an example,I just visited a new Craft2000 store a few weeks ago that just opened up about a year ago.In the back of the store they have clearance items.I almost cried when I saw "Flower Soft" at $3.00 instead of about $10.00 on a internet site for the exact same thing.I bought all 16 of them knowing I would put it to good use in my card making. The Lord is good and I thank Him everyday for making it possible to partake in this very important work.I'd like to personally thank you for the invite to make cards for the elderly. They are ready to be mailed out,all 20 of them.Sincerely,Sandra

I've made some cards and I'm about to send them off, but just wanted to check here before I did ...by message do you mean to stamp a sentiment or to write an actual message of hello and good tidings inside? Thanks so much in advance!

You can e-mail me the reply if that's easier. gabylowe at hotmail dot com
