♥ CARING HEARTS CARD DRIVE ♥

Edited 10/22/10 to add: Prizes from Erin Terrell Clarkson

Caring Hearts Card Drive   is inspired by my love for my mom. Through this card drive I am hoping to collect a ton of holiday cards for the elderly that lives in a nursing homes or care center or assisted living place.

My mom suggested this idea earlier this year. She said, "Sometime as much as the elderly understand that it might be necessary for them to live in care center or nursing homes, it's still not an easy thing to be away from your family or being away from their home. It can be lonely and some of them might not even have anyone who would visit them. Would be nice if you can get a bunch of cards send to them".

Holidays is about family, about kindness, joy. The holidays are the times when many of them would really feel  the loneliness or missing their family. Wouldn't it be awesome if we can bring a smile to their face & brighten their holiday season simply by sharing our love of card making? A simple gesture to let them know that they are not forgotten.

Some of the places that receive the cards are the residents of Baton Rouge Health Care Center, Lovette Place, & Afton Oaks in Houston, and Pavilion Assisted Living in New Jersey. Lorraine, the activity director at BR Health Care Center said the residents love receiving cards. It brighten their days tremendously. A huge thank you to Lori Janise & Leslie Chamorro for helping me organizing this drive.

Since we all love making cards, why don't we make at least one for this drive? I can hope, right, that many of you will help?

A few details:
  • This card drive will be going on till mid November. I will need to receive yor cards by November 15, 2010 that way  we can send the cards out in time for Thanksgiving. Christmas cards will be save for Christmas delivery.
  • Please make the cards for either Thanksgiving or Christmas or Holiday Wishes. Anyone can send a card, your children, church group, scout troops, etc.
  • All cards need to have a message in it.  Please also sign your name and where you are from.  On the card envelope, write your name on the top left corner.  Also, please don't seal the envelope, as we will address the card when we deliver them to the nursing homes. Due to privacy policy, the nursing homes or the care center cannot share the resident's name to public.
  • Please stick to just cards.
  • All cards need to be mailed to the following address:
                        Vera Yates

       Caring Hearts Card Drive

       P.O Box 16321

       Sugar Land, TX 77496
  • In each package, PLEASE include a piece of paper with your name, address, email address and how many cards you sent.  This helps us in keeping track for prizes!  For each card you send, you will get a chance.  So the more cards you send, the better your chances.
To thank you for your generosity in supporting this drive, I have several PRIZES ready for several winners. And as of this moment, there's still some prizes from other donors that's still in the work. The amount of winners will be determined by the amount of participants & final prize donation. Please remember,  the prize list will be UPDATED as more prizes collected.

Special thanks to all of the donors who have donated the following for the Caring Hearts Card Drive

They will do a special challenge for this drive on October 20, and if you join this challenge, you'll have a chance of winning prizes from them.

HOW YOU CAN ENTER TO WIN:
- Send your cards in to the address above. Each card count as one entry. The more you enter the better your chance.
- If you have a blog, please link THIS POST on your side bar.
You can use the logo on the top or any of the prize pic.
Once you do this add your blog link below.
Tips: to add the logo to your side bar, save the logo pic to your computer. Copy the link to this post. On your blog dashboard, click "Add gadget", click "Add picture", a small window will open where you can upload the logo pic, add this post link, & on the caption you can put "Open till November 15, 2010".

The hope is to generate as many cards as we can for those who could use a random act of kindness.
This is my first time organizing this and I know I probably didn't have all the details, as there is so much to think about. I will add more as we go, so if you have any questions, please email me.

Good luck and a huge thank you so much for your kindness.

Hi Vera,

I came across your blog while I was blog hopping... I make cards for charity and would love to send some to you.

There is one thing I wanted to understand... that is what kind of message should one write inside the card? Sorry for sounding so dumb but just wanted a clarification.

I will make some cards and send you at the earliest because the post from this side of the world will take rather long.

xxx Monica
