A Special Thank You

Today is a busy day for me. I have 3 post to share today. Here's my first post for the day. :)

Introducing Avocado Arts "Special Delivery" set.

Well, I supposed to show this set on my January 30th post, but my mind was so scattered then as I was focus with work that I completely missed it. Whoopsy daisy.... I do have it correctly today. :) Here's my card using this set:

Totally one layer card. A little masking & then simply coloring it all with Copic markers.

At this moment, if anyone deserve a special thank you that would be my husband. Work wise been so busy and stressful and I probably hasn't  been a very happy camper and hubby been so understanding. I do take my work seriously. My boss was wondering why I am stress out. The answer is doing my job correctly & efficiently matters to me. And handling 60-70 houses (I am in new construction business) can be overwhelming at times.

Yep... I think I have to tuck in this card for hubby. For being patient when his wife being grumpy. ;)

Please check out what the Pit Crew has created using this set.

Hello

My journey into mini card continue. I made this card featuring Heartsy Mae as shown on Some Odd Girl  blog this past Monday.

CAS, bright, and sweet. :)

I wish I have more things to say, but I don't. This past week I've been so stress out with work as I was finishing up our company tax report that not much else going on. So, short post it is. :)

Hi There

Hi there folks. How's your week going? Mine is cray... cray... Finishing all those last minute tax stuff for work, I have to double up on my coffee dose.

Speaking about coffee, I am recently found out that a couple of my card making friends are also into collecting Starbucks coffee cup that has city name & skyline. Hubby already had Houston & Chicago ones when we first dated. Then when we went on vacation we thought that would make good souvenir that we'll actually used and from then on our collection slowly grow.

I accidentally broke my Seattle cup a few month ago. Then to my delight, my awesome CHA roommates, Aj Otto gave me a Seattle one and Latisha Yoast gave me one from Florida! Double whammy of awesomeness!

Maybe that's why I kind of more partial to play with coffee cup image more than tea cup image?? Because I've been surrounded by coffee goodness? This set from Avocado Arts Perfect Blend has both coffee cup & tea cup images, but so far, I kept reaching for the coffee cup.

As you can see I am trying to use more patterned paper on my card. I have to say it's fun especially when I can still manage to make it CAS the way I like it. Totally into mini card right now. This card is only 2.75" x 4". Am entering this to Moxie Fab itty bitty card challenge.

Check out what my team mate has created for more inspirations, Ashley Harris & Cristal Hobbs. Thank you for stopping by here.

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge

Well, what do you know it's already the last week of January. And at work I am scrambling like crazy to finish all the tax stuff. I think I got several gray hair just because of this. ;)

So, to balance my week and to compensate the seriousness of the week I spent the weekend being crafty. Which brings me to this week new Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge which is to create a project inspired from this pic.

Since I am into the color gray at the moment, I took the pillow case/bedspread as the base for my mini card. This card measured 3 x 4.25 inch. Am entering this card to Moxie Fab itty bitty card challenge as well.

And, yay for more using more paper from my scrap pile. The flirty doggy is from the set Woofers & Tweeters set. You can find more inspirations and enter this challenge at PS SPARKS blog.

Hope your week starts off wonderfully. :)

11 Years Ago & Now

January 27 always makes me feel a bit melancholy. Exactly 11 years ago I got the call that letting me know that my dad has passed away. My mom said I screamed. I don't remember that. The whole day, the whole week was a bit blurry for me. I remember making the call to find flight home right away, in a daze taking the 24 hour flight home, seeing my mom and my brothers.

I remember the ache in my heart for not being able to say goodbye (my dad passed away from heart attack). However, I also remember lots of love. I remember when I first arrived my brothers following me around to the point I was asking them why they're following me and my little brother said in case you fainted we're here to catch you.

This is why I love my brothers. No, we don't talk to each other every week, heck sometime we don't talk for months. If anything I talk to my SIL more. But, I know without a doubt they'll always be there for me.

That night after I arrived we all piled in my mom's room and I laid on the bed. I couldn't open my eyes because I was so tired and drained, yet I remember smiling along with everyone when I heard about something funny that my dad did or said. I felt sadness and love at the same time as we celebrated my dad's life.

Some moments just stuck more in my mind. My grandma holding back tears when she was saying goodbye to her son. Me cracking up because I was too short and can't reach to kiss my dad's forehead to say goodbye and my brother had to pick me  up and gave me a boost. His old friends telling stories about stuff they did together. The amount of people coming to pay their respect. Our whole front yard filled with flowers from so many people.

How strong my older brother Jeff and his wife, Gina. As we're on our way to my dad cremation, my brother got the call that his house been flooded. That was a year filled with so many tears. I could do something and then just suddenly burst into tears. Took me a whole year before I was finally at peace with my dad being gone.

Some rambling thoughts that cross my mind as I  think back of that time 11 years ago and what I learned from my dad's passing:
1. Family is everything.
2. You don't have to be a perfect person to make an impact to someone else life.
3. You will make lots of mistake in your life. You're only human.
4. Being able to forgive someone's else mistake is important for your own sake not theirs.
5. Fun fact about my dad: he was the first Indonesian to win gold medal in wrestling in international competition. (I told you  this rambling thoughts).
6. That tradition is precious. I learned so much of my Chinese culture & tradition and I treasure the fact that I get to experience it despite the sad occasion.
7. Always end phone conversation with your loved ones with "I love you."
8. No matter how long time passed, you will always miss your loved ones.

I still miss my dad. At my wedding I missed him. At my brother's wedding. When my niece was born. When I am finally doing good in life. I missed him and I hope he's looking down from up there and I hope he's proud of me and know that I never forget him. Rest in peace dad. xx

May Arts & Cardmaker Magazine Blog Hop

Hi everyone and welcome to May Arts & Card Maker magazine blog hop. We are teaming up and bringing you plenty of fab eye candy. If you arrive here from Susan Lui's blog then you are on the right track.

Let's get on with the program, shall we?

Here’s what I used to create this card:
Patterned paper: (Bright Side petite paper pad) Lawn Fawn, (Indie Chic Saffron  6x6 paper pad) My Mind’s Eye
Ribbon: May Arts satin reversible (RP22)  & double faced faux suede (XV17)
Wood dies: Bird from Studio Calico
Spray mist: Tattered Angels in Caribbean Blue
Pearl stickers: Recollection

In case you are wondering, on the card you see 3 colors of ribbon, but I only list 2 on the supply list, it’s because one of the ribbon is double sided. Isn't it a gorgeous color combo? One of my favorite ribbon!

Now, the how-to:
1. Cut a panel the same size as the card.
2. Cut 3 strips of ribbon, about 5” long, snip one end into fish tail and adhere them to panel (see below).  Once that done adhere the panel to card.

3.  Then cut 6 more strips of ribbon. Three 6” long and three 5” long. Fold each end to the middle and you’ll end up with 6 folded ribbons. Sorry, the picture only shown 4, by the time I remember the other ribbon, I already adhered the ribbons to my card.

4. Layered the folded ribbon on top of the ribbons on the panel.
5. Stamp sentiment, fussy cut it, and layered it with patterned paper and adheres on top of the ribbon with pop-dots.
6. Spray the bird wood die with spray mist. Let it dry and adhere to the top corner of the sentiment.
7. Add some pearl stickers.

And, of course as always, May Arts is generous with their hop prizes. Simply leave a comment and we will randomly pick a winner who get to choose 4 spools of ribbon of their choice. You don't have to leave comments on each blog, but the more blog you leave comment on the higher your chance. :)

Hm... some enabling... May Arts have several fabulous new ribbon coming out. My favorite is the denim one! If you have any question about any of the ribbon just let me know and I hopefully I can direct you to the right direction.

From here please hop on over to my team mate Virginia Fynes. If you miss any link, please go to May Arts blog for complete list of participants. Thank you for stopping by here.

Lacy Flower

Can't remember if I have shared this card on my blog or not. I made it a while back and it was published on CARDS October 2012 edition.

I am really loving the gray color at the moment.

And, sorry for the super short post. Not feeling too well, today. Hope today is a great day for all of you. :)

A Love Note & Good News

Hi'ya everyone! How's our weekend? Hubby and I enjoyed a low key weekend. We went to see The Last Stand, which turned out better than I expected. I guess, I do have my dad's gene after all. :) My dad's love action movies and back in the 80's, 90's his favorite were Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzeneger, Bruce Willis, etc. And, from all the preview I've been seeing many of them are coming out with new movies this year. I think part of why I am excited about these movies is because they remind me of my dad.

My siblings and I get our love of movie from my dad. In fact, when I cleaned up my dad's stuff after he passed away, I found 3 books where he kept a list of movies that he watched back in the 50s. And, each of us also keep a list of movies we watch through the year (although my older brother stop his after his laptop was stolen). I still continue doing mine.

On Sunday, I added The Lorax to my movie list for 2013. That animation is actually cute! So I got my action & I got my cutesy stuff in. ;)

Okay, enough blabbing. I was also being quite creative this weekend. I even finished 3 of my next month DT projects. And, I made some cards just for fun. Like this one.

Not quite my style, huh? Yep, one of my resolution for this year: to actually use more patterned paper. Not as easy as I'd like, but am getting there. And, on this card not only I used patterned paper, I used washi tape as well and mistable canvas feather from Studio Calico. I am patting my own back for stepping out of my comfort zone. I have to convince myself that it's not too busy.

So, what about you? Are you the type that use patterned paper a lot or prefer minimal patterned paper on your projects?

Oh yeah, speaking about patterned paper, I have good news to share. I didn't think this company would invite me to be part of their team since I don't use patterned paper a lot, but they did... I am now officially part of Paper Made Bakery. You can see their announcement HERE. :)

Paper Smooches Sneak Peek

Paper Smooches is showing off their CHA release during the entire month of January.  37 designers are participating along with the PS DT, so there will be a ton for projects to inspire you this month.  Paper Smooches is known for their fun and whimsical hand-drawn stamps.  They decided that it was time to broaden their product line to include DIES and wood mount stamps!

I have a project to share using NEW PS product that releases on February 1, 2013 at www.papersmoochesstamps.com along with many retail stores around the globe.

You will find a new blog link (or two) to follow every day in January at the PS Blog.

Paper Smooches is giving away $500. Worth of product!  Hidden on FIVE of the participating blogs is a prize package worth $100. each. The prize includes a variety of stamp sets, wood mounts and dies. Comment on as many blogs as you can to increase your chances to be one of the five winners.

Deadline is January 30th – winners will be announced on the PS Blog on January 31st.

Let's get on to today's sneak peek. I get to play with one of the new die set called Flourishes. And, here's how I used it.

This die set has 3 flourishes in it. But, for my card I only used 2 of the 3 flourishes as I don't want the bird tail to be  too big or too much. And on purpose I didn't glue the curl end of the flourishes so it pop off the card and gives movement to the tail.

What do you think of this die set? I have lots of fun playing with it and what I like about it is that you can use it for elegant looking project or fun looking project. I love the way it gives my bird a funky & stylish edge.

Hope you're enjoying today's sneak peek. Thank you for celebrating along with Paper Smooches as they expanding their line and thank you for stopping by here. Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Glittery Chandelier

Hi peeps. I was going to get all creative last night, till I remember that Thursday is my TV night. I usually skip watching TV, except Thursday. I love Grey's Anatomy & Scandal. They're my favorite shows, so instead of playing with papers, I browse bunch of catalogs & making my wish list, & watching the show.

I do have a card that I want to share, though. This card was published on Paper Crafts Creative Die Cutting.  And, I kind of proud of this card, since I think it's slightly different than my usual style. It's CAS, but it's elegant, not cutesy. And look, it's non-white background. ;)

And, I love that I get to use my American Crafts POW glitter paper that I've been hoarding. Best glitter paper out there. It's glittery but smooth. It works really well with Silhouette. Cut like butter. L.O.V.E it!

There are actually 3 layers on this chandelier for a 3-D effect. Thank goodness for super tiny pop-dots.

Now, I've been wanting to step up my game a bit. My goal for this year is to get get out of my comfort zone more. Many of you have followed my blog for a while and you know my style. What do you want to see me try? Give me a challenge that's related to paper crafting (cause I would not take bungee jumping challenge, in case you think to suggest that... hah...).

Looking forward to reading your suggestion. Have a fabby Friday.

CHA Goodness

Hi everyone! I am back from CHA. I had so much fun and big part of it because I got some awesome roommates. These girls, Latisha Yoast, Aj Otto, and Emily Branch totally rock! They make me laugh and I learn so much from them.

I think the best part of CHA is getting to know the people that you previously only known online. And, when they turn out to be goofy, kind, and flat out crazy (but in a good way) it's even better. Warning, lots of pictures on this post. :)

I arrived on Friday afternoon and was shocked at how cold it was! You know, when you  go to California you tend to expect nice weather. Not freezing your bum kind of weather. Anyway, I met up with the girls and then we head out  to Downtown Disney and get together with the Paper Crafts crew for a yummy dinner at Naples.

And, it turned out that Kimberly Crawford and Amber Kemp-Gerstel also stayed at the same hotel. Needless to say that on our first night, we chatted a lot and didn't go to bed till 1 a.m. (that's 3 a.m Houston time) and I was whooped. I laughed my head off so much that night and if you follow me on Instagram you might have seen one or two crazy picture. ;)

Now, of course I drool over many fabulous goodies, which I am sure many of you already seen on FB, blog land, etc. So, for today how about I share some pics of the girls that I get to hang out with or meet for the 1st time.

Met with Nina Yang who was doing make & take on GCD booth.

The fun part of CHA in my opinion is when you spotted someone you know or someone that you'been chatting online with for a long time and finally get to meet them in person.

At Paper Smooches booth, with Julie Campbell, Kim Hughes,
and the super sweet Kalyn Kepner.

Of course I have to stop by Paper Smooches booth. I get to see all the new stamps and dies that are coming out, and oh my word. Let me just say my wish list for their dies is a mile long. And, I also get to meet Kalyn Kepner for  the 1st time. She's such a sweetie.

With Annette Allen & Amy Tsuruta

These 2 girls are always so supportive and are so good at cheering on others. Annette remember my love of pug and now & then she'd pointing out cute pug stuff for me just because she knows I'd love them. How sweet is that? And she has the prettiest smile, too.

Her new Dear Lizzy collection is FABULOUS.

Can you believe it that I have been to CHA several times and this is the 1st time I actually chatted with Elizabeth Kartchner? She is very nice and I love her new collection. Must have!

3 of my favorite girls.

Getting to know these girls been the highlight of my trip. They are goofy and they taught me so many things. I consider them as my mentor. And honestly they are so fun to hang out with.

I love Cammie's works. Unfortunately I haven't really get a chance to hang out much with her. But we're able to chat a bit here and there. And, Holly Anderson, she is such a cutie, isn't she?

If I have to pick just 1 scrapbooker who continue to inspire me
that would be Ali Edwards.

Pardon the daze look on my face on this pic. By day 3 I was so tired, I have to chug 3 cups of coffee to keep me going.

So, what do you like to see from CHA? Do you want to see products pics at all? What do you want to know about CHA? Post your question or suggestion and if I can do it, I'll do it. I want my blog to be more interactive to make it more fun. So ask away...

I'll be back tomorrow with card post. By today I finally feel a bit normal and can function. So, hoping to be creative tonight.

Birthday Cup

Hi everyone. Today I am heading back home and knowing myself, by today my brain would be overloaded with ideas and I'll be working on a long wish list. Hah... the downfall of CHA, you always, always end up with long wish list. Hoping I'll be able to catch up on stuff and share my CHA pics and experience with you sometime this week.

Now, I have a mini card made using Avocado Arts sets. The paper is from my old, old, stash. Let's see maybe from 2003? Sad, isn't it? Anyway, I love the pastel colors with some pop of bright colors.

For this card, I used the coffee cup from Perfect Blend set, sentiment from Avocado Style Border & Sentiment, xoxo border from Sweet Treat Sweetie, and a sneaky peek from upcoming February set. Yes, I was proud of myself that I was able to used 4 different set to make this card. :)

I know my the Pit Crew has created some fab eye candy for you. So, please check out my team mate creations and don't forget to leave comments as we have 3 Avocado Arts set to giveaway. Check out Avocado Arts for the giveaway detail. Thank you for stopping by here.

Hi peeps. I am still at CHA at the moment, but I have this post ready and scheduled.

Creative Card Challenges Hop

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to Paper Crafts Creative Card Challenges Hop. If you haven't seen this latest special issue from Paper Crafts you need to get it!! It's full of fun & inspiring stuff. You should get here from my CHA roomate, the talented Emily Branch.

I have 7 cards published in this one and when I get the invitation for the hop, of course I jump right in. After all as card maker we all love challenges, right? For the hop, we were challenge to create a card using music lyric.

I debated for quite a while on which song to use. At the end, I chose one of my favorite song "The Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Middler and I used that as the theme and sentiment for my card.

Right now, I kind of digging that vintage botanical book look. You know where they have the image layered with text. I am not quite sure what is the correct term, but that's where I get my inspiration for layering those vintage botanical & text stamp with the bird.

I colored the bird with distress ink and Luminarte Twinkling H20shimmering watercolor paint. In person, the bird has nice pearly sheen to it. The border, I colored them with pencil colors.

Now, no hop is complete without giveaway. Simply leave a comment here by midnight (CST) Tuesday, January 15, 2013 and I will randomly pick one lucky winner to win this special issue.

From my blog please hop on over to Paper Crafts blog and check out what Holly has in store for you. Knowing her, it would be a pretty fab giveaway package. :)

And today, I am flying out to Anahaeim and spend the weekend with some crafty friends. Super excited and from all the sneak peeks I've been seeing, I know I will have a long wish list. Well, let the fun begin. Thank you so much for stopping by here. Cheers...

You Are My Sunshine

Sharing another layout from the scrapbook I made for my brother. Love it when the paper looks so pretty and  you only need to add a bit of embellishment. Makes it so easy and fast to do the page.

Now,  this two lovebird has this sweet little girl. That piercing look, hah... totally my brother's look.

Earlier this week, they were celebrating Shakira 1 month old by doing the Chinese tradition blessing ceremony. Basically family member and close friends come together and gives the baby blessings so may she or he have a blessed life. And this day also mark the 1st day that the baby go outside the house with grandma taking her for a walk.

I so love this picture. We have picture just like this when we were babies with our own grandma. And I love the fact that my mom went with the traditional, old school style umbrella for this event. You don't see this often nowadays. And somehow as I see how our family branched out and scattered all over the world, I value our heritage and appreciate it more than ever.

And, yep, our family is in love with this baby girl. Just like the title on my layout, she is our sunshine. :)

To my sweet niece, Shakira, I wish that your life always filled with sunshine and when there's rainy or cloudy days, I hope you remember that the sun will always come back and rise. And may you bring sunshine to those around you.

Just The 2 of Us

My adventure in paper crafting starts with scrapbooking  and to this day I still love it. I don't often find time to do it, but when I do my heart actually flutter with joy. Yes, that's how much I love it. There's something of working with your loved ones pictures and combining it with pretty papers.

Last year, for my brother's wedding present I made an album of him and his wife from when they first met. I plan to share the pages here, but then completely forgot. And yesterday, browsing my files, I realized how much I love the pages I made for them and it's time to share them here.

So, no card today, but a layout. :)

Yes, still sticking to my clean and simple style. When it comes to scrapbook, I want the picture and the journaling to take center stage.

I will share more layouts and after CHA I am pretty sure my brain will be buzzing (it already start to buzz) and my creativity will be in high gear. Truly hoping that I can balance scrapbooking & card making this year.

And, yep I am already filled with anticipation to see my crafting friends. I will get to meet many new ones this year and I am super thrilled about it. 2 more days before it's time to fly out! Yayness.... :)

Playing With Bleach

Back when I first started stamping in 1997, one of the first technique I learned was using bleach for stamping. But, somehow I often forget to do it. Well, that and I don't like the bleach smell.

Anyway, a while back I was working on submission that challenged us to use bleach. And this is one is a reject, but I still think it's pretty cute, so I'll share it here. :)

To stamp with bleach, I just soak in a paper towel with bleach and place it in a flat container. You don't want to put too much bleach because if the stamp get too wet, you will end up with splotchy image. Basically you just want enough bleach to wet the towel, but don't see any bleach pooling on the container.

And from my experience it's better not to press the stamp too hard. Oh, and wash you stamp as soon as you're done. I am not sure whether bleach will ruin your stamp or not (like making it too dry), but I figure if bleach could cause a hole in your shirt, better be safe than sorry. ;)

I am counting the days to CHA!! In 3 more days I get to see the girls and seems like quite a few of us staying at the same hotel. So, that would be super fun. And, on Friday I have scheduled a fun hop and you don't want to miss it. Thanks for stopping by here. Cheers....

Happy Friday

I made this card just for fun and to use up my stash. A while back when I cleaned up my room and realizing how many papers I have, I put myself on paper diet and determine to use up most of my stash before adding more. Trust me, it's like trying to resist cheesecake. Very h.a.r.d.

Here's my card using the patterned paper from Echo Park This & That set.

And.... guess what?? One week from now, I'll be hanging out with my girls at CHA!! So excited! One more week!! Going to CHA while on paper diet... hah... hopeless.

Now, it's time to announce a couple winners from Seasons Giving blog hop!! Drum roll..... please.. ;)

Winner of prize # 1 is comment # 157 left by Kim.

Winner of prize # 2 is comment # 277 left by Indy.

Ladies, please contact me with your mailing address. Thank you so much to everyone for participating and for all the lovely comments. Have a fabulous weekend, peeps!

To A Special Woman In My Life

Today, my mom is turning 71. So, today's post is dedicated to her. :)

My mom is one of the strongest person I know. She went through several life hurdles, yet she always have the gratitude attitude. She always told me when things is rough look down and you could see many other people who have it worse, so be grateful for what you do have.

As I went through some bad life experience, she is always there giving me support and told me not to ever let bad experience makes me bitter because when you're being bitter, you're wasting life.

We don't always see eye to eye. Trust me, she has 3 stubborn kids that she raised to stand for what we believe in and to speak our mind. Once, I asked her how does she feel when we argue with her or when we told her she is wrong. And she said well, I might not like it, but I raised you to speak your mind and parents is also human, they make mistake.

Yep, especially growing up in Eastern culture where there's tendency to just obey your parents, my mom is definitely different. I definitely don't know many parents who can accept it when their kids say they are wrong. My mom, she would ask for our reason to say so, she'd listen, and then we discuss it.

And, my sweet mom, she still doesn't get it  the impact she has on people that know her or on us her kids. When my brother published a book that highlighted women's beauty & strength and dedicated the book to her, she asked why her.

My mommy & me on her last visit to the States.

My mom is not perfect. But she is perfect for me. She understand my stubbornness, my mood swing, and she loves me unconditionally even when I did things she doesn't agree or understand. I think of all her kids, I am the one most different from her in the way of thinking. I have tendency to think with my heart and she has to remind me to use my head. She taught me the value of family, of kindness, of being fair and just.

To my mom, thank you for raising me the way you did. You gave me solid foundation. I appreciate my root, where I come from. Thank you for raising me in mix culture, so I can appreciate both the Eastern and the Western culture and take the best of both world.

BTW, my mom is now officially a grandma to a real grandchild. LOL, all these times her grandkids are the 4-legged kind. Hah... So, to my mom who is one cool and funky grandma, happy birthday. I love you and glad that I am your daughter.

This card is for her. Simple and yet it says it all for me.

Gahh... I got all sappy and crying writing this post. Well, if you're reading all the way to the bottom, thank you . Help me wish my mom happy birthday, will you. Hugs to you all.

'Tis The Season

Hi peeps. Today I want to pop in to share the latest Spellbinders Stitched Die of the Month . This time I get to combine the stitched frame...
